Pinglu Canal will be fully connected and navigable in September of this year.
On the morning of June 3rd, as the Pinglu Canal Ma Dao and Qishi locks began to fill with water, it marked the full water transportation of the Pinglu Canal and entered the comprehensive water testing stage. The Pinglu Canal is a key project of the Western Land and Sea New Passage, with a total length of 134.2 kilometers, starting from the mouth of Pingtang River in Hengzhou City, Guangxi, passing through Luwu Town in Lingshan County, and entering the Beibu Gulf along the Qin River. As the first canal project in China since the founding of the People's Republic of China, which was coordinated at the national level to connect rivers and seas, the Pinglu Canal can accommodate ships of up to 5,000 tons and is scheduled to be navigable in September of this year. After completion, goods from the southwest region can be transported out to sea through the Pinglu Canal, reducing the river distance by more than 560 kilometers compared to exiting via the Guangzhou Port, making it the shortest, most economical, and most convenient sea channel for the southwestern region.
