The Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council held a routine press conference. In response to Lai Ching-te's speech on the second anniversary of taking office promoting "Taiwan independence," spokesperson Chen Binhua stated that Lai Ching-te's fabrication of lies, distortion of legal principles, and attempt to package the "new two-state theory" under the guise of "elections" and "democracy" is purely self-deception and deceiving others. Taiwan is part of China, regardless of how Taiwan is elected or who is elected, it cannot change the status of Taiwan as a part of China, it cannot sever the historical and legal connection between both sides of the Taiwan Strait belonging to one China, and it cannot break the iron law that the future of Taiwan can only be decided by all Chinese people, including Taiwan compatriots.
