Hou Fushen, a researcher at the China Automotive Society, talks about the acceleration of new materials application in intelligent and electric vehicles.
At the 2026 Automotive New Materials Conference held today, Hou Fushen, Vice Chairman and Secretary General of the China Society of Automotive Engineering, stated that traditional fuel vehicles require more than 200 types of materials for manufacturing, while smart new energy vehicles require over 400 types of materials, doubling the total amount of materials used compared to traditional fuel vehicles. According to the China Society of Automotive Engineering's "Energy-saving and New Energy Vehicle Technology Roadmap 3.0," it is predicted that by 2030, the penetration rate of new energy vehicle models in China's passenger car market will exceed 70%; L2-level intelligent assisted driving functions will be fully popularized in the passenger car sector; and vehicles equipped with L3 and L4-level advanced automatic driving functions will have a market penetration rate of over 35%. Along with the industry upgrade, this will also drive innovation applications in various sectors of fine materials such as automotive electronic materials, electrochemical materials, and functional materials.
