According to data from the Alberta Wildfire Management Agency and the Alberta Energy Regulator, a wildfire in the northwest of Calgary has reached an area of 1,043 hectares and is currently out of control, with natural gas and oil wells operated by Taqa North, Tourmaline Oil, and Highwood Asset Management located less than 10 kilometers away. The fire occurred in the natural gas and light oil production area of the Rocky Mountain House region in western Alberta. At least one well operated by Taqa North, named "PETRO CAN. RICINUS 2-6-34-8W5," is within the perimeter of the fire, while a facility operated by Tourmaline is only about 1 kilometer away from the fire. The proximity of these facilities to the fire does not necessarily mean that production will be affected. Tourmaline has stated that their production has not been impacted by the wildfire.
