According to the original agreement, OpenAI was required to pay Microsoft 20% of its revenue. If the ChatGPT developer had met its long-term revenue targets, the total amount of revenue sharing would have reached $135 billion. However, there were previously undisclosed terms in the new agreement between the two parties, and now OpenAI only needs to bear a small portion of the original amount. According to sources familiar with the agreement, the two companies have agreed to cap the total payment amount at $38 billion. Based on revenue expectations, if OpenAI reaches its ambitious revenue targets, it is highly likely to hit the cap in 2028. Based on these projections, the payment cap will save OpenAI approximately $97 billion in costs.
