On April 28th, at a routine press conference held by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, Wang Li, Deputy Director and Chief Inspector of the Work Injury Insurance Department of the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, mentioned the pilot work of occupational injury protection for workers in new employment forms. Wang Li stated that this year will further expand the pilot program for occupational injury protection. Wang Li explained that the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security pays high attention to the pilot work of occupational injury protection for workers in new employment forms. In July 2022, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security carried out a pilot program for occupational injury protection for workers in new employment forms, based on the decisions and arrangements of the Party Central Committee and the State Council. In response to the high mobility and multi-platform employment of workers in new employment forms, innovative measures such as daily insurance participation, billing per task, monthly payment, and total participation and protection have been adopted. A notice was issued in May 2025, specifying a phased and progressive expansion of the pilot program in terms of adding provinces, companies, and industries over a period of three years. "As of July 1, 2025, the pilot program has been expanded to 17 provinces and 11 platform companies. As of now, more than 27 million people have been insured, effectively providing a safety net for major accidents. Following the overall plan of 'three years and three steps,' this year will further expand the pilot program for occupational injury protection," said Wang Li.
