Ministry of Ecology and Environment: Focus on Three Key Aspects of Monitoring New Pollutants in the Next Five Years.
On April 27th, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment held its regular press conference for April. Zhang Dawei, director of the Ecological Environment Monitoring Department of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, introduced that the new challenges of monitoring pollution lie in "three special aspects": a wide variety of pollutants, extremely low concentrations, and particularly high costs. During the "15th Five-Year Plan" period, special monitoring plans will be formulated focusing on three key areas: first, improving the standard system, striving to cover over 90% of substances listed for management by 2030; accelerating the revision of various standards for perfluoro compounds, chlorinated paraffins, etc., and strengthening the supply of standards. Second, carrying out coordinated monitoring, conducting business-oriented coordinated monitoring based on the monitoring networks of surface water, groundwater, and nearshore sea areas to intensify tracking of risk points and precise source tracing; meanwhile, organizing local authorities to conduct baseline monitoring of drinking water sources. Third, enhancing monitoring capabilities, accelerating the construction of "dark labs" for pre-treatment of new pollutants; at the same time, vigorously promoting the application of domestically produced equipment to build a national and basin monitoring laboratory system.
