Elementary and middle school spring break plus May Day holiday can have a total of up to 11 consecutive days off.
Reporters found that recently, many places in China have successively issued notices for primary and secondary schools to go on vacation, scheduling the "spring break" around the May Day holiday. As a result, the original 5-day holiday has been extended by several days. Some places started their vacation as early as April 25th, with a total of 11 days off, meaning that the first group of vacationers have already departed. According to the Qinghai Daily, Haixi Prefecture in Qinghai Province was the first to implement the system of spring and autumn breaks for compulsory education schools. In 2026, Haixi Prefecture's spring break for primary and secondary schools will be from April 27th to 30th, a total of 4 days, connecting with the May Day holiday for a continuous 11-day break. In addition, they also announced the implementation of an "autumn break" from September 28th to 30th, a total of 3 days, connecting with the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holidays for a continuous 13-day break.
