Encounter strong hailstorm weather that caused some areas of the terminal building to leak water? Kunming Airport responds.
Kunming Changshui International Airport issued a situation report on April 25: From 00:20 to 02:56 on April 25, Kunming Changshui International Airport experienced severe convective weather, during which there were brief periods of severe thunderstorms and hail. Some parked aircraft were affected by hail strikes, leading to the cancellation or delay of some flights. Kunming Airport immediately activated emergency response measures in coordination with airlines and operational support units. Upon on-site inspection, it was found that the excessive amount of hail in a short period of time had blocked the drainage system's siphon on the roof of the terminal building, preventing rainwater from draining properly. This resulted in overflow from the drainage pipes on both sides, causing water accumulation in certain areas of the terminal building. The flooded areas have now been cleared. During the hailstorm, a total of 113 parked aircraft were at Kunming Airport. From an aviation safety perspective, airlines are required to conduct comprehensive safety assessments to ensure that aircraft are in compliance with safety standards before resuming flights.
