The Regional Ecological Summit calls for building a resilient future.
The Regional Ecological Summit 2026 closed on the 24th in the capital of Kazakhstan, Astana. The summit, with the theme of "Towards a Resilient Future Shared Vision", aims to promote systemic cooperation mechanisms among Central Asian countries in ecological environment restoration, water and soil resource management, and biodiversity conservation. During the summit, Central Asian countries issued a declaration on "Central Asian Environmental Solidarity", planning to establish an international fund for the protection of rare species and biodiversity, and develop a government interplan for the protection of the Caspian Sea water resources. As a result of the summit, the government of Kazakhstan signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the United Nations Environment Programme, planning to establish a regional environmental center in Almaty. At the green technology exhibition during the summit, relevant parties also reached 17 cooperation agreements. Kazakhstan President Tokayev proposed the idea of holding a regional ecological summit at the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly in 2023. The summit was co-hosted by the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Kazakhstan, United Nations agencies, and several international organizations. The 3-day summit included a series of high-level meetings and large thematic exhibitions. Leaders of the five Central Asian countries, Georgia, Armenia, Mongolia, as well as representatives from various countries and international organizations attended the meeting.
