On the 21st, CATL held a Super Technology Day new product launch event in Beijing. At the event, Wu Kai, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Chief Scientist of CATL, systematically explained the advantages, boundaries, and development directions of different material systems. He stated that lithium iron phosphate batteries are currently approaching the theoretical limit of energy density and are more suitable for developing a technology route with ultra-fast charging as the core, achieving ultimate balance. Ternary materials, with their advantage in high energy density, have always been an important high ground in the global competition of power battery technology, which once again illustrates that energy density is still the core indicator to measure the leading position of power battery technology. Sodium-ion batteries are expected to show broad prospects in high-temperature, extreme cold travel scenarios, and energy storage fields. Whether from the perspective of differentiated consumer demands or from the perspectives of energy security and social development, the lithium-ion industry must promote the coordinated development of multiple chemical systems.
