General Secretary Xi Jinping of the Communist Party of China met with a visiting delegation from the Chinese Nationalist Party led by Chairman Zheng Liewen in Beijing on the morning of the 10th. Xi Jinping welcomed Zheng Liewen's delegation visit and pointed out that the meeting between the leaders of the two parties after a 10-year hiatus is of great significance for the development of the relationship between the two parties and across the Taiwan Strait. Compatriots on both sides of the strait belong to the Chinese nation. The various ethnic groups, including the compatriots in Taiwan, have jointly created a unified multi-ethnic country, written a brilliant history of China, created a splendid Chinese civilization, nurtured a great national spirit, and forged a common belief in the inseparability of the national territory, national security, national unity, and uninterrupted civilization, leading the Chinese nation to strive for self-improvement and the Chinese civilization to continue. Xi Jinping emphasized that no matter how the international situation and the situation in the Taiwan Strait change, the overall trend of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation will not change, and the trend of compatriots on both sides of the strait getting closer and closer will not change. Compatriots on both sides of the strait are looking forward to peace and tranquility in the Taiwan Strait, improvement and development of cross-strait relations, and a better life. This is an inescapable responsibility for the two parties, as well as a driving force for cooperation together. We are willing to strengthen exchanges and dialogues with all political parties, groups, and individuals in Taiwan, including the Chinese Nationalist Party, on the basis of adhering to the "1992 Consensus" and opposing "Taiwan independence", in order to seek peace for both sides of the strait, well-being of compatriots, and rejuvenation of the nation, ensuring that the future of cross-strait relations firmly in the hands of the Chinese people themselves.
