The Vienna International Energy and Climate Forum opened on the 9th. Against the backdrop of increasing global uncertainty and ongoing energy crises, participants called for accelerating energy transition, promoting green industrialization, enhancing climate resilience, and fostering shared prosperity. LI Yong, Director General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, said at the opening ceremony that the forum is held at a time of geopolitical turmoil, continuous conflicts, and uncertain economic prospects, with conflicts leading to rising prices of oil, energy, fertilizers, and food, affecting everyone, with developing countries once again becoming the hardest hit victims. LI Yong stated that climate impacts are worsening, and the countries with the least responsibility for this crisis are facing the greatest impact. He called for significantly increasing investments in mitigation, adaptation, and nature-based solutions to safeguard livelihoods. Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg said in his speech that the global energy supply and price fluctuations once again facing the world are a heavy warning - energy dependency comes at a cost, stability and security are key influencing factors. He stated, "We must accelerate towards a sustainable, secure, and affordable energy transition through stronger international cooperation." Xie Zhenmin, China's Special Representative for Climate Change, pointed out at the plenary session that the current international situation is severely turbulent, with the global governance system facing serious challenges, but the climate crisis will not stop. Countries need to build consensus, stimulate economic development through green transformation, choose transformation paths based on national conditions and resource endowments, vigorously promote technological innovation, create an open and favorable international trade environment, and balance climate goals, economic development, and energy security.
