Hong Kong suspends import of poultry and poultry products from certain regions of Chile.

According to a press release from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, the Centre for Food Safety of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department of Hong Kong announced today that, in response to a report from the World Organisation for Animal Health, there have been outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in Talagante Province in the Santiago Metropolitan Region and Tarca Province in Maule Region of Chile. The Centre has immediately instructed the industry to suspend the import of poultry meat and poultry products from these areas to safeguard the health of the public in Hong Kong.
