Sina Finance reported on March 31st that the Australian cybersecurity regulatory agency announced on March 31st that it is conducting an investigation into the world's top five social media platforms, accusing them of violating the country's ban on social media platforms for minors under the age of 16. This is the strongest signal released by Australia so far, and the companies involved may face severe penalties. This announcement is also the first time the Australian government has publicly commented on the enforcement of this law. It is reported that this globally pioneering regulatory model has attracted attention from many countries around the world. Julie Inman Grant, Australia's eSafety Commissioner, clearly stated that the platforms involved include the five giants: Meta-owned Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok International, and Google-owned YouTube, are all listed as potential non-compliant targets. Currently, Australian regulatory agencies are collecting relevant evidence and planning to take punitive measures against non-compliant platforms.
