Violence in Haiti has continued, resulting in more than 5,500 deaths over the past year.

According to the latest report released by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights on the 24th, in the past 12 months, gang forces in Haiti have expanded from the capital Port-au-Prince to the suburbs, and have spread north to Artibonite and Central provinces. The report points out that during the expansion of gang forces, deadly violent incidents have been continuous. Violence incidents involve gangs, security forces, private security companies, and self-defense organizations. According to data verified by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, between March 1, 2025 and January 15, 2026, at least 5,519 people have been killed in Haiti, and 2,608 people have been injured. Among them, gang violence incidents have caused at least 1,424 deaths and 790 injuries; operations launched by security forces against gangs have caused at least 3,497 deaths and 1,742 injuries. Attacks by self-defense organizations on gangs have resulted in at least 598 deaths and 76 injuries.
