French media reported on the 20th that a woman in the Normandy region of France died of invasive meningococcal disease. Local health authorities stated that they are currently unable to link this death to the meningitis epidemic in the UK. According to the French newspaper Le Monde, a female employee at the Orano nuclear fuel company's factory in La Hague, Normandy, died of invasive meningococcal disease. The company has identified around 50 people who may have come into contact with the case, and stated that these contacts will receive preventive antibiotic treatment for 48 hours and will be monitored at home for 10 days. Recently, there has been an outbreak of invasive meningococcal disease in Kent County, UK, which has already resulted in two deaths.
