According to reports from media such as The Washington Post on the 17th local time, a telegram issued on that day showed that the US State Department has ordered all US "diplomatic agencies around the world" to immediately conduct security assessments, citing "ongoing changes in the Middle East situation and possible spillover effects." The report stated that the telegram indicated that "all US diplomatic agencies around the world" should convene an "Emergency Action Committee" and review their "security situation." The telegram was signed by US Secretary of State Pompeo and the order came from a Deputy Secretary of State. The Washington Post reported that although US diplomatic agencies in the Middle East have received similar orders in the past few weeks, the above-mentioned telegram seems to mark the first time that an order to review security conditions due to the Middle East situation has been issued to all US diplomatic agencies worldwide.
