State Council Taiwan Affairs Office: Any attempt to split the country or resist reunification is a pipe dream.
On March 18, the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council held a routine press conference. A reporter asked: Regarding the Taiwan Affairs Office spokesperson's recent criticism of Lai Ching-te's "Taiwan independence" remarks, the Democratic Progressive Party responded that the essence of the cross-strait relationship lies in the struggle between systems. What is the spokesperson's response to this? Spokesperson Chen Bin-hua said that the Lai Ching-te administration uses the guise of so-called "universal values", turning democracy into a tool to suppress dissent, "resist China and safeguard Taiwan", and engage in external collusion, attempting to deceive the people, confuse public opinion, incite cross-strait confrontation, and "rely on external forces for independence" and "resist reunification through force". Its malicious intentions are clear and obvious. The difference in systems is not an obstacle to reunification, nor is it an excuse for division. The dispute between the two sides is not a system-level conflict, but a struggle between reunification and division. The so-called "system-level conflict" is just an excuse for the DPP authorities to seek "independence" and a trick to deceive Taiwanese compatriots and international public opinion. No matter what Lai Ching-te and others say or do, it cannot change the fact that Taiwan is an integral part of China, it cannot sever the unbreakable historical and legal ties between the two sides, and it cannot break the iron rule that the future of Taiwan can only be determined by all Chinese people, including Taiwanese compatriots. In the face of the inevitable trend of reunification between the two sides and the determination of over 1.4 billion compatriots to defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity, any attempt to divide the country or resist reunification is delusional.
