According to Japanese media reports, Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takichi once asked former Prime Minister and Vice President of the Liberal Democratic Party, Taro Aso, if he was willing to become the Speaker of the House of Representatives, but was politely declined by Taro Aso. Japanese media analysis states that as becoming the Speaker requires leaving one's party faction, Sanae Takichi may be trying to weaken the influence of the "Aso faction" by making this move.
