The first government-approved restart of land registration in the West Bank of the Jordan River since 1967.
On the 15th local time, the Israeli Minister of Justice, Minister of Finance, and Minister of Defense issued a joint statement declaring that the Israeli government officially approved a proposal to restart the land registration process in the West Bank of the Jordan River. This is the first time since 1967 that Israel has restarted this highly controversial administrative procedure in the region. According to the joint statement, the core of the decision is to officially register "large areas" of the West Bank of the Jordan River under the name of the State of Israel. The proposal authorizes the Israeli Ministry of Justice's Land Registration and Administration Department to oversee the work of related settlements and has allocated a "special budget" for this purpose. The statement argues that this decision is an "appropriate response" to the Palestinian Authority's advancement of "illegal settlement procedures" in Area C of the West Bank of the Jordan River.
