According to the news from the National Railway Administration, in January 2026, the national railway freight volume continued to grow, and railway construction made efficient progress. Due to the impact of the Spring Festival holiday, the passenger volume in January decreased compared to the previous year. In terms of passenger transport, in January, the national railway completed the passenger volume of 349 million person-times, a year-on-year decrease of 5.2%; completed passenger turnover of 1170.59 billion person-kilometers, a year-on-year decrease of 19.1%. Due to the impact of the 2026 railway spring festival starting on February 2nd, delayed 20 days compared to the previous year, the passenger volume decreased year-on-year, and it is expected to show a growth trend in February. In terms of freight transport, in January, the national railway completed a freight volume of 438 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 3.6%; completed freight turnover of 3072.69 billion ton-kilometers, a year-on-year increase of 6.5%. Looking at the transportation situation by category, coal, containers, and grain sent 2.30 million tons, 0.91 million tons, and 0.066 million tons respectively, with year-on-year increases of 0.9%, 17.9%, and 52.0% respectively, showing efficient and smooth transport of key materials. In terms of fixed asset investment, in January, the national railway completed fixed asset investment of 46.3 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 5.5%.
