Wang Yi Meets with British Foreign Secretary Raab

On the 13th, during the Munich Security Conference, Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with British Foreign Secretary Cooper. Wang Yi stated that China and the UK are both major countries in the world and permanent members of the UN Security Council. Both bear the responsibility of maintaining international peace and security, and should maintain regular exchanges, strengthen strategic coordination and communication, expand mutual interests, and safeguard world peace and development. Former British Prime Minister Stamer's successful historic visit to China a while ago has rebooted China-UK relations. President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Stamer unanimously agreed to develop a long-term stable comprehensive strategic partnership, reaching a broad consensus on bilateral and multilateral cooperation, meeting the expectations of all sectors for the stable development of China-UK relations. Wang Yi said that both sides should implement the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, continuously release the benefits of bilateral relations, tap more cooperation potential. Both sides need to hold a new round of economic and financial dialogue, economic and trade joint committee meetings, China-UK strategic dialogue, resume normal exchanges between the legislatures of the two countries, and enhance people-to-people exchanges. China supports free trade, opposes any form of protectionism, welcomes companies from the UK and other countries to invest in China, utilize platforms such as the Import Expo to expand exports to China, and hopes that the UK will provide a fair, just, and non-discriminatory business environment for Chinese companies. Cooper stated that Prime Minister Stamer's visit to China was a complete success and achieved fruitful results, playing an important role in promoting the development of China-UK relations. Building a long-term stable comprehensive strategic partnership between the UK and China is in line with the strategic interests of both sides. The UK has long adhered to its policy since establishing relations with Taiwan, and will not change it. Cooper expressed his willingness to work with China to implement the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, advance mechanism-based dialogues in various fields, expand cooperation in trade, investment, finance, climate, security, green technology, etc., and properly manage differences. The UK adheres to multilateralism and international rule of law, and both sides can strengthen multilateral communication and cooperation to contribute to world peace and security. The two sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues such as the crisis in Ukraine, Sudan, and Iran.
