Trump was asked to sue the Department of the Treasury for hundreds of billions of dollars, and the US Treasury Secretary stutteringly admitted: If he wins, it will be the taxpayers who foot the bill.
According to Reuters, US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said on the 5th that any compensation reached in the 100 billion dollar lawsuit brought by President Trump against the US Treasury Department and the IRS will be paid out from the Treasury Department's general account. When asked "Does the Treasury Department's general account mean that this money comes from taxpayers?" Yellen stuttered before responding, "Um, yes." Yellen revealed during a Senate Banking Committee hearing that he had not discussed this lawsuit with the President or the White House, and said it was a matter for the Justice Department in which he had no say. Yellen stated that if Trump prevails in the lawsuit, he will wait for instructions from the Justice Department on whether to pay any amount to Trump, and he personally does not have the authority to decide on the payment of this sum.
