Waymo's latest financing valuation is $12.6 billion, and the momentum of robot taxi rentals is strong.
Alphabet's subsidiary Waymo has announced that it has raised $16 billion in its latest round of funding, valuing the autonomous driving car startup at $126 billion. In less than two years, its valuation has nearly doubled. As one of the hottest applications of artificial intelligence, leading autonomous driving car companies are investing heavily in commercializing their technology, with a focus on safety and regulatory cooperation to gain market share. The funding round was led by investment groups Dragoneer, DST Global, and Sequoia Capital, with follow-on investments from Mubadala Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, and T. Rowe Price. According to data from Tracxn, as of the last external funding round in 2024, Waymo's valuation was $45 billion. Waymo was spun out from Google's self-driving car project by Alphabet in 2016 and is the only operator in the United States to offer a paid robot taxi service without safety drivers or in-car attendants.
