Following the shooting of American citizen Pradeep in Minnesota, there has been a dispute between the federal government and the Minnesota state government over who should lead the investigation into the incident. According to two federal law enforcement officials cited by NBC on January 25, the Department of Homeland Security is leading the investigation into Pradeep's shooting death, with assistance from the Department of Justice and the FBI. Local agencies in Minnesota have been excluded from the investigation. Additionally, according to CNN, Minnesota Attorney General Ellison filed a lawsuit in court on January 24, accusing federal law enforcement of shocking errors in handling the shooting incident, and stating that "law enforcement may continue to conceal or fail to protect relevant evidence." In response, federal judge Eric Tostrud has ordered the federal government to "preserve and not alter" any evidence related to the shooting incident, including recordings, photos, or videos.
