Kaitu Macro's economist Bradley Saunders stated that, considering the estimated 0.5% decrease in retail sales in December, the strong rebound in November's retail sales in Canada may mainly reflect a temporary boost from Black Friday promotions, rather than a more sustained improvement in consumer demand. The economist still believes that, as the effects of previous rate cuts gradually become apparent, and consumer confidence continues to recover from recent lows, the worst period for consumer spending in Canada is over. However, Saunders said that the recovery is expected to be gradual.
