According to Reuters, Tesla CEO Elon Musk stated at the World Economic Forum in Davos on Thursday local time that Tesla's fully self-driving system (FSD) that requires driver supervision could receive approval from European and Chinese regulatory agencies as soon as next month. Facing slowing car sales, Tesla is trying to open up new growth opportunities through its software business. Musk said, "We hope to obtain approval for fully autonomous driving that requires supervision in Europe, ideally next month, and China may be around the same time." Due to stricter safety regulations and a more decentralized regulatory system, Tesla's progress with FSD in Europe is noticeably slower than in the United States. The Dutch vehicle authority RDW previously stated that a decision is expected to be made in February. Tesla stated that once approval is received from the Netherlands, other EU countries can follow suit in recognition, allowing the system to go online ahead of official EU approval.
