Nikkei 225 index closed up 914.25 points, or 1.73%, at 53688.89 points. The East Stock Exchange index closed up 0.7% to 3,616.38 points. The South Korean KOSPI index closed up 42.6 points, or 0.87%, at 4952.53 points.
