Trump makes global stock markets "great again" but the U.S. stock market is far from a golden age.

After rebounding from the brink of a bear market in April, the S&P 500 Index continued to hit record highs throughout the year. U.S. President Donald Trump sees this as proof that he has made the U.S. the "hottest" country in the world. However, when considering the stock markets in Tokyo, Frankfurt, and even emerging market financial centers, Trump's achievements upon returning to the White House are not as brilliant. In fact, according to the MSCI index, global stock markets have increased by about 30% since Trump took office a year ago, nearly double the increase of the S&P 500 Index. Since the U.S. economy recovered from a recession in 1993 and investors flocked to overseas growth markets, the performance of the U.S. stock market in the first year of a president's term has never been so far behind.
