Citigroup strategist cuts expectations for European stock markets.
The Citigroup strategist, who accurately predicted that the European stock market would outperform the overall market, has now become more cautious towards the region due to President Trump's controversial move to try to purchase Greenland, which has led to worsening relations between Brussels and Washington. Beta Montei has downgraded her rating of European continental stock markets from buy to neutral for the first time in over a year. During this period, as of last Friday, the Euro Stoxx index has risen by 31% in US dollar terms, outperforming the S&P 500 index. Montei wrote in a report, "The latest escalation of tensions across the Atlantic, as well as the uncertainty surrounding tariff policies, have weakened the short-term investment value of European stock markets," and have also impacted the profit prospects of European continental companies.
