The massive power outage in San Francisco caused Alphabet (GOOGL.US) subsidiary Waymo's self-driving cars to become paralyzed, forcing them to upgrade their emergency systems across the board.

Zhitong Finance APP learned that Alphabet (GOOGL.US)'s self-driving company Waymo announced on Tuesday that it will update the software used to operate its autonomous vehicles and improve its emergency response protocols. Last Saturday, its autonomous taxis were stuck in parts of San Francisco due to a large-scale power outage, causing traffic chaos and congestion in some parts of the city.
