Poll: South Korean President Lee Myung-bak's approval rating drops to 53.4%
A public opinion survey released on December 22nd showed that South Korean President Lee Jae-myung's approval rating was 53.4%. The survey, commissioned by South Korea's "Energy Economy News", was conducted from December 15th to 19th among 2521 voters aged 18 and older nationwide, and the results showed a 0.9 percentage point decrease in President Lee Jae-myung's approval rating compared to the previous week. The polling agency Realmeter analyzed that despite President Lee Jae-myung's open governance initiatives such as the "Policy Live Report" being praised as innovative communication attempts, some unresolved issues and controversies have become short-term factors dragging down the approval rating. Realmeter added, "In addition to the above events, controversies related to the Coupang incident and the uncertainty in people's livelihoods and the economy caused by the South Korean won breaking through the 1480 won mark against the US dollar are also factors contributing to the decline in approval rating."
