The journalist learned from the South-to-North Water Diversion Group of China that on December 21, the ice period water diversion for the Eastern Route of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project for the years 2025-2026 officially started, and is expected to be completed in February 2026. As a strategic infrastructure to alleviate the serious water shortage in northern China, the Eastern Route project has successfully completed the ice period water diversion task for 5 consecutive years during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, with a cumulative ice period water diversion of approximately 961 million cubic meters, effectively ensuring stable water supply during extreme cold weather, guaranteeing water needs for living, industry, agriculture, and ecology along the route, and effectively solving the problem of water shortage in winter and spring.
