The United States imposes sanctions on members of the Maduro family and related individuals, increasing pressure on the Venezuelan government.
On the 19th local time, it was learned that the United States has imposed sanctions on several relatives of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro's wife, accusing them of corruption. According to reports, the U.S. Department of the Treasury said in a statement that the sanctioned individuals include several relatives and associates of Maduro's wife, as well as several close relatives of Carlos Erik Malpica Flores, who has been previously sanctioned by the U.S. for his alleged involvement in corruption cases related to the Venezuelan state oil company. U.S. Treasury Secretary Mnuchin accused these individuals of "supporting Maduro's rogue drug trafficking state" and stated that the U.S. will not allow Venezuela to "continue to ship deadly drugs to the United States." The Venezuelan government has not yet responded to this.
