The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) held a ceremony in the southeastern part of Lebanon near the border with Israel, where they handed over a piece of land that had been cleared of mines to the Lebanese Armed Forces. This is the first time since the ceasefire agreement between Lebanon and Israel last year that UNIFIL has transferred land that has been cleared of mines. The demining work started in August of this year and was completed earlier this month. UNIFIL discovered 393 landmines in an area of nearly 2000 square meters, and with the coordination of the Lebanese Armed Forces, they were destroyed on site.
