On the morning of December 19th at 11 o'clock, with the last pressure steel pipe of the Weihe River diversion project's canal bridge being inverted into place, the 89.54-kilometer northern main line of the second phase of the project was fully connected. After completion of the project, it will be able to transfer 1.5 billion cubic meters of water annually, covering four major cities of Xi'an, Xianyang, Weinan, and Yangling, as well as 11 small and medium-sized cities, benefiting a population of 14.11 million. It will effectively change the situation of excessive exploitation of groundwater and encroachment on ecological water in the Guanzhong Plain, provide water consumption indicators for water diversion from the mainstream of the Yellow River in northern Shaanxi through water rights substitution, support a GDP of 1.1 trillion yuan for the entire province of Shaanxi, and promote the improvement of ecological environment and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin.
