According to informed sources, President Trump will interview another candidate for the Federal Reserve Chairman on Wednesday Federal Reserve Board member Christopher Waller. Officials have cautioned that the selection process is moving quickly, and President Trump is still weighing his options, with the possibility of postponing or canceling the meeting. Trump interviewed former Federal Reserve Board member Kevin Warsh last week and said Warsh and National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett are the top candidates for the position. Waller was nominated by the President at the end of his term in 2020 to the Federal Reserve Board and was appointed by the Senate. This year, he has become a key figure within the Federal Reserve advocating for interest rate cuts. The Federal Reserve has announced a 25 basis point rate cut in its last three policy meetings. When the Federal Reserve chose to keep rates unchanged in July, Waller cast a dissenting vote, advocating for a rate cut. The White House has not yet responded to requests for comment on this matter.
