Wang Yi: Japan launched aggression under the guise of a "crisis of survival and danger" in the past years, and the historical lessons must never be repeated.
From December 12 to 16, Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs, visited the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan. After the visit, he accepted interviews from Chinese media.
Reporter: During this visit, all three countries emphasized their adherence to the One China principle and strong support for China in defending its national sovereignty and territorial integrity, in stark contrast to the retrogressive actions of a few countries. How does China evaluate this situation?
Wang Yi: During the visit, I introduced the historical facts and legal principles of the Taiwan issue to the three countries, making it clear that China firmly opposes interference by the current leader of Japan on the Taiwan issue. The three countries reiterated their adherence to the One China principle, strong support for China in maintaining national sovereignty and territorial integrity, and support for China in achieving national reunification. An Arab friend said it well, opposing "Taiwan independence" and supporting China in safeguarding territorial integrity is only natural. Allowing "Taiwan independence" would only allow various separatist forces to disrupt the world.
Mutual support in defending each other's core interests is the historical foundation and political essence of China-Arab friendship. Arab nations, like the Chinese nation, have also suffered from colonial oppression and can empathize with China's position. Arab countries supporting China's just position on the Taiwan issue is also a defense of the basic principles of international relations, showing that the One China principle is deeply ingrained.
This year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese people's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. Japanese militarism at the time used the pretext of a so-called "existential crisis" to brazenly launch aggressive wars, a historical lesson that must not be repeated. All peace-loving countries in the world must be highly vigilant against the resurgence of militarism and fascist forces, and resolutely prevent any attempts to pursue colonial aggression.
