Chinese Bookstore Responds to Errors Found in Three Hundred Tang Poems

On December 15th, China Bookstore Limited issued a statement regarding the situation of the book "Three Hundred Tang Poems" in the "Chinese Classic Recitation" series. The content is as follows On December 2nd and December 9th, Mr. Sheng Dalin pointed out on his personal WeChat public account that there were errors in the simplified and traditional Chinese characters comparison in the "Chinese Classic Recitation" edition of "Three Hundred Tang Poems" published by China Bookstore. On December 14th, an education self-media account named "National Chinese Scholar" relayed the relevant content in a video. We highly value this feedback and promptly conducted a reexamination. The explanation is as follows: The edition of "Three Hundred Tang Poems" is one of the books in the "Chinese Classic Recitation" series, first printed in 2012. At that time, based on suggestions from frontline teachers according to teaching requirements, we labeled the corresponding traditional characters below the original poems. Due to the need for re-typesetting and simplified-traditional character conversion, there were some errors, and although sporadic revisions were made during subsequent reprints, they were not thorough. The error pointed out by Mr. Sheng Dalin in which "" was mistaken as "" was due to an operational error in the complete replacement during the editing process; errors like "" being mistaken as "" and "" being mistaken as "" were due to direct conversion between simplified and traditional characters. This edition underwent a comprehensive review in 2019, and most of the above-mentioned issues have been corrected. However, during the 2019 revision, we did not identify and therefore did not correct two instances of the character "" and one instance of the character "". We thank readers for their corrections. Due to contract expiration and other reasons, after the 10th printing in September 2020, the printing of this edition of "Three Hundred Tang Poems" has been halted, and the bookstore no longer sells it. In response to the possibility of the presence of books printed before the 9th printing in 2019 in the current channels, and due to the plastic wrapping of the books making it impossible for both bookstores and readers to discern the printing edition, the bookstore has initiated a recall procedure for all copies of this book starting from today. We appreciate the attention and care of our readers towards China Bookstore. We feel deeply ashamed of errors like those caused by the conversion between simplified and traditional characters. In the future, we will strengthen the management and review process of the entire manuscript, strictly implement the "three reviews and three proofreads" system, and rigorously maintain quality standards to publish more high-quality books for our readers.
