Argentina strongly condemns British companies planning to develop oil fields in the Malvinas Islands.
On the 11th local time, the Argentine Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement strongly condemning the so-called "final investment decision" by the British company Rockhopper Exploration and the Israeli-based Navitas Petroleum Limited to develop the Sea Lion oil field in the waters of the Falkland Islands. The Argentine Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in the declaration that unilateral exploration and exploitation of renewable and non-renewable natural resources in disputed territories violates the provisions of United Nations General Assembly Resolution 2065 and relevant resolutions of the UN Special Committee on Decolonization. Any unauthorized oil and gas exploration or extraction activities in the disputed areas, whether direct or indirect, are in violation of international law and Argentine law, and the Argentine government will take all appropriate legal actions against it.
