Pilots shortage leads India's largest airline to cancel thousands of flights.
Due to the new regulations issued by the Indian government causing difficulties in pilot scheduling, IndiGo Airlines has canceled thousands of flights consecutively for 5 days, leaving a large number of passengers stranded at airports. On just one day, the 5th, IndiGo Airlines canceled over 1000 flights. On the 6th, IndiGo Airlines canceled a total of 385 flights in Bangalore, Mumbai, New Delhi, and Hyderabad. In addition, in recent days, airports in New Delhi, Mumbai, and other areas have experienced long delays in flight schedules. IndiGo Airlines released a statement on the 3rd, stating that various factors have had a negative cumulative impact on their operations in an unforeseeable way, including adverse weather, flight congestion, and the new regulations issued by the Indian government regarding evening flight crew scheduling. According to the new regulations, starting from November 1st, the limit on the number of nighttime flights for pilots within a week has been reduced from 6 to 2. It is reported that these new regulations have caused a shortage of pilots at IndiGo Airlines, leading to difficulties in flight scheduling.
