Dealing with over-tourism, Milan bans the use of key boxes for self check-in in short-term rental accommodations.
The Milan city government announced on the 4th that as one of the measures to address the issue of excessive tourism in the city, short-term rental property owners have been required to remove key boxes for self-check-in from public areas. During the process of renting out short-term rental properties, landlords often use key boxes with passwords to hand over house keys, allowing guests to check in without meeting face-to-face, saving time for both parties. However, critics argue that these key boxes affect the city's appearance and that skipping the face-to-face check-in process actually increases security risks.
