In November, layoffs in the United States fell sharply by 53% compared to the previous month, but the total number of layoffs for the year reached a new high since 2020.
According to the financial news app Smart Finance, US employment consulting firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas released a report on Thursday stating that US employers announced plans to lay off 71,320 people in November, a 53% decrease from the 153,070 people in October, but still a 24% increase year-on-year. From January to November this year, US employers have announced a total of 1.17 million layoffs, a 54% increase compared to the same period last year. This data has reached the highest level since 2020.
