Taiwanese media: Taiwan authorities' "cutting off Chinese tourists" deal a heavy blow to the island's tourism industry
According to a report from Taiwan's United News Network on December 2, the Taiwan authorities' transportation department's subordinate "Tourism Bureau" originally set a goal of millions of visitors to Taiwan this year, with Tourism Bureau head Chen Yuxiu even saying that 9 million visitors was achievable. However, statistics show that only about 7.6 million tourists visited Taiwan from January to November this year. Chen Yuxiu admitted on the 2nd that the goal of 9 million visitors to Taiwan "may not be achieved". The report stated that the Tourism Bureau originally set a target of millions of visitors to Taiwan this year, but only 4.197 million tourists visited in the first half of the year. According to the latest statistics, only about 7.6 million tourists visited Taiwan from January to November this year. With only one month left, there is still a gap of 1.4 million from the 9 million goal. The report stated that Chen Yuxiu attended the Tourism Industry Digital Expo on the 2nd, and after the meeting, she admitted in an interview with reporters that the goal of 9 million visitors "may not be achieved", mainly due to the impact of the typhoon in July and the overflowing of the Matian River dam in Hualien in September, causing many visitors to cancel their plans to come to Taiwan.
