The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government waives relevant fees for residents of Hung Fuk Estate in Tai Po.
After a fire broke out in Hong Kong on November 26, Chief Executive Carrie Lam instructed all government departments to show sympathy for the residents of the Hong Fok Estate in Tai Po. They were to be given flexible treatment in terms of government charges and bills, providing them with the maximum support possible. On December 3, a spokesperson for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government announced that in order to alleviate the economic burden on the residents of the Hong Fok Estate in Tai Po and the families of the deceased in the fire, the government will waive the balance of taxes due for the tax years 2024 to 2025 for affected property owners and residents, as well as the provisional tax for the tax years 2025 to 2026. Additionally, the government will pay land rents on behalf of affected property owners and residents, as well as waive differential rents for homes that cannot be used due to the fire. Furthermore, the government will exempt residents of the Hong Fok estate from water and sewage fees for the period of July to November 2025. Electricity and telecommunications service providers have also offered different support services for residents of the Hong Fok estate in terms of electricity and telecommunication service fees.
