In May, the foreign exchange fund's overseas assets increased by 26.8 billion Hong Kong dollars to 3.6818 trillion Hong Kong dollars. The monetary base was 2.0722 trillion Hong Kong dollars, including promissory notes, government-issued circulating banknotes and coins, bank system balances, as well as issued foreign exchange fund notes and bonds. The total amount of the foreign exchange fund's claims on the private sector in Hong Kong was 418.3 billion Hong Kong dollars. The total external liabilities amounted to 106.4 billion Hong Kong dollars.
