According to the data from the National Bureau of Statistics, in May 2026, the industrial producer prices in China rose by 3.9% year-on-year and by 0.5% month-on-month. The industrial producer purchase prices increased by 5.8% year-on-year and by 1.3% month-on-month. The average industrial producer prices from January to May increased by 1.0% compared to the same period last year, while the industrial producer purchase prices increased by 1.6%.
In May, the industrial producer prices for production materials rose by 5.2% year-on-year, which contributed to an overall increase of about 4.08 percentage points in the industrial producer prices. Among them, the prices in the mining industry rose by 15.8%, raw material industry by 9.2%, and processing industry by 2.3%. Prices for consumer goods decreased by 0.8%, with food prices falling by 1.8%, clothing and general daily goods by 1.0%, and durable consumer goods remaining unchanged.
In terms of month-on-month changes, in May, the industrial producer prices for production materials rose by 0.7%, contributing to an overall increase of about 0.53 percentage points in the industrial producer prices. Prices in the mining industry rose by 1.5%, raw material industry by 0.9%, and processing industry by 0.5%. Prices for consumer goods remained stable, with food prices falling by 0.1% and clothing, general daily goods, and durable consumer goods all rising by 0.1%.
The industrial producer purchase prices saw increases in prices for chemical raw materials by 4.2%, fuel and power by 2.7%, textile raw materials by 1.0%, and black metal materials by 0.6%. Prices for non-ferrous metal materials and wires, as well as agricultural products, both increased by 0.3%, while prices for building materials and non-metallic materials decreased by 0.5%.
