Statistics from Hong Kong International Airport show that in April, the airport received a total of 5.67 million passengers, with a total of 34,445 flight takeoffs and landings, representing a year-on-year increase of 9.4% and 5.5% respectively. The cargo volume also increased by 4.9% year-on-year to 423,000 metric tons.
On May 21, the statistics released by Hong Kong International Airport showed that in April, the aviation traffic in Hong Kong steadily increased, with the airport receiving a total of 5.67 million passengers and 34,445 aircraft movements, representing a year-on-year increase of 9.4% and 5.5% respectively. Cargo volume also increased by 4.9% to 423,000 metric tons. The overall passenger traffic in April increased due to the Easter holiday, with a peak of over 210,000 passengers on April 3. Transit/transfer passengers and visitors to Hong Kong were the main drivers of the increase in passenger traffic. By region, most markets recorded an increase in passenger traffic in April, with the mainland China and Southeast Asia markets performing the best; the Middle East market was the only region to experience a decline due to ongoing conflicts. The increase in cargo volume was mainly driven by transshipment cargo, followed by imports, which increased by 20.2% and 6.5% respectively compared to the same period last year; while exports decreased by 0.3%. Regional performance in terms of cargo was mixed, with growth in Europe and Southeast Asia offsetting declines in North America and the Middle East markets. In the first four months of this year, passenger traffic increased by 13.0% to 22.3 million passengers, while aircraft movements increased by 5.1% to 135,090; compared to the same period last year, cargo volume increased by 3.7% to 1.63 million metric tons. Over the past 12 months, passenger traffic at Hong Kong International Airport reached 63.54 million, with 401,240 aircraft movements, representing a year-on-year increase of 13.7% and 6.6% respectively; cargo volume also increased by 2.9% to 5.12 million metric tons.
