A French container ship has appeared in the Arabian Sea, with its last reported location being in the Persian Gulf, marking a rare completion of a transit through the Strait of Hormuz by this Western European vessel. Tracking data shows that the small container ship "CMA CGM Saigon" under the French shipping group CMA CGM SA was spotted in the waters near Ras Al Khaimah in the UAE on Tuesday afternoon local time. On Wednesday evening, the ship appeared again in the waters near Oman, with its destination set for Colombo, Sri Lanka. The interruption of the ship's signal suggests that it may have passed through the Strait of Hormuz discreetly by shutting down its Automatic Identification System (AIS) to evade regular monitoring. The navigation of ships through the Strait of Hormuz is already difficult to track accurately, and the frequent signal disruptions in the area further increase the difficulty of monitoring ship trajectories. CMA CGM SA has not yet responded to requests for comment. Since the escalation of tensions between the US and Iran, few Western-linked ships have been able to safely navigate through the Strait of Hormuz, making the smooth passage of "CMA CGM Saigon" a rare occurrence. In early April, CMA CGM successfully evacuated a large container ship, the first Western European vessel to do so since the escalation of tensions. Recently, Iran has announced an increased control over shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, establishing new control boundaries that include the major ports along the coast of the Oman Sea in the UAE. Just this Tuesday, another ship under CMA CGM, "CMA CGM San Antonio," was attacked while sailing through the strait, resulting in injuries to crew members and damage to the vessel. It is reported that "CMA CGM Saigon" has a capacity of up to 1,700 standard shipping containers (twenty-foot equivalent units).
